A medium yellow leather shoulder bag, with hand-batik folk-art animals — elephants, deer, cats, birds — arranged in grids across the body.
Made by artisans in Bolpur, in Birbhum district of West Bengal — the leather-batik craft here grew around Santiniketan. The leather is full-grain, hand-cut into a tall structured silhouette. The yellow is dyed bright; the animal motifs — elephants, deer, cats, birds, and small geometric panels — are drawn on and dyed by hand, motif by motif, in the folk-art tradition of Bengal.
