Our Story

The Beginning

It started with a saree that wouldn’t leave our minds.

On a trip to Bishnupur in West Bengal, we came across a Baluchari silk saree being woven on a wooden handloom. The weaver — a woman who had been a weaver for over thirty years — was creating something extraordinary. Mythological scenes, thread by thread, in colours drawn from the earth itself.

That saree cost a fraction of what a machine-made imitation sells for in a city boutique. The irony was hard to ignore. The people making the most beautiful textiles by hand in the country were the least rewarded for it.

Loom & Latitude started as a question: what if we could bring these pieces — exactly as they are, with their full story — directly to people who would value them?

HOW WE SOURCE

No warehouses. No middlemen. Just a direct line.

We travel to the weaving villages ourselves. Bishnupur, Bolpur and Phulia in West Bengal. Chanderi, Bagh, and Rewa in Madhya Pradesh. These aren’t factory floors — they’re homes, courtyards and small workshops where families have practiced their craft for generations.

We choose each piece by hand. We check the materials — only the purest ones and natural dyes make the cut. If it’s not something we’d buy for ourselves, it doesn’t go on the store.

And we pay artisans directly, upfront, at rates that are fair — not fair-trade-minimum fair, but genuinely fair. The kind of fair where a master weaver earns what their thirty years of skill actually deserve.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Handmade isn’t a marketing word. It’s a way of life.

Every product on this store was made by a real person, sitting at a real loom or holding a real brush. There’s no factory involved. No assembly line. No two pieces are identical — and that’s not a flaw, it’s the whole point.

We believe the things we own should have a story. Not a brand campaign but an actual story. Where was this made? Who made it? What tradition does it carry? When you buy from Loom & Latitude, you’ll always know the answers.

We’re not trying to be the biggest. We’re trying to be the most honest. A small company that brings you extraordinary craft, treated with the respect it deserves — from the village where it was made, all the way to your hands.
