A Chanderi cotton saree in pink, with bullion-knot embroidery and small sequins worked across the body.
Hand-woven in Chanderi, a weaving town in Ashoknagar district of Madhya Pradesh. The cotton is fine, lightweight, and lightly sheer — the kind that holds embroidery without weighing it down. Bullion is a coiled embroidery stitch: small twisted cords of thread, raised against the cloth. Here, the bullion knots are worked across the body of the saree, with small sequins set between them. All by hand, slowly, after the weaving was done.
