A Jamdani cotton saree in peach, with the bonolota creeper woven into the cloth โ pattern made on the loom, not printed on top.
Hand-woven in Phulia, West Bengal. Jamdani is a weaving technique, not a printed pattern: the bonolota โ a creeper, a vining motif โ is built into the cloth on the loom itself, with extra weft threads inserted by hand between the warps. It is among the most labour-intensive weaving techniques in the world. The peach is muted โ closer to terracotta than to fruit, and easy to drape on a working morning or a Sunday afternoon.
