Orange Booti and Ambi Motif Leather Shoulder Bag — Large

A bright orange leather shoulder bag, with hand-batik motifs across it — small booti repeats around the borders, a large ambi (paisley) at the front centre.

Made by artisans in Bolpur, in Birbhum district of West Bengal — the leather-batik craft here grew around Santiniketan. The leather is full-grain, hand-cut. Each motif is drawn on with wax, the leather is then dyed in stages, and the wax resists the dye where the pattern should stay. When the dye is done, the wax comes off. What's left is colour pressed into hide.
